Thursday, July 23, 2015

ELEVATION GAIN:  Total gain, with all ups and downs is 500 feet

HIKE DISTANCE:  6 miles (RT) from the trailhead at Tamarack Lodge.

GENERAL LOCATION:  Tahoe City.

DESCRIPTION:  It’s been described as Lake Tahoe’s secret state park.  Burton Creek is a spectacular watershed of over 2000 acres tucked away in the hills overlooking Tahoe’s North Shore just outside Tahoe City.  This hike covers the core of the park up Burton Creek and around the park’s meadow areas; Burton Creek Natural Preserve and Antone Meadows Natural Preserve, both protected for the local fauna and flora as well as to help preserve a lean watershed into Lake Tahoe.  On the pre-hike wildflowers were abundant and the views spectacular. We are repeating the hike and BBQ that we did in 2014.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE: One Hour 50 minutes each way. One way distance is about 95 miles. This is a $10 driver donation.  Detailed driving directions will be handed out to all drivers.  After the hike everyone is invited to stop at our cabin in Truckee for a hamburger BBQ and relaxation after the hike. For planning purposes, please RSVP for the BBQ. If you don’t plan on stopping at the cabin, you will have to make sure you ride with a driver that is coming straight back to Lincoln.

HIKE LEADER/SWEEP:  Phil Huntingdale and Stephanie Huntingdale
