CANYON VIEW TRAIL
SATURDAY, AUGUST 8, 2015

DIFFICULTY:  Easy

ELEVATION CHANGE:  Approx. 215 feet, elevation change.  Starting elevation, approx. 1200 ft.

HIKE DISTANCE:  3 miles.  This is a loop hike of 1.5 miles, but we will hike the loop twice — hence a total of 3 miles.

GENERAL LOCATION:  Auburn

DESCRIPTION:  This delightful trail is in the 50-acre Canyon View Preserve, just a stone’s throw from Interstate 80 in Auburn.  The property was purchased in 2003 by Placer Land Trust and they completed the trail in 2013.  The hike will be short (3 miles and about 90 minutes), scenic (a view of Sierras and Foresthill Bridge), and educational (lots of interpretive signs)!!
We will be stopping at each sign (about 5 of them) to learn about the environment.  The trail is single file, packed dirt, and traverses gently down into the hillside canyon and then back up to the start — nothing steep or difficult.  The area has mostly shade from the oaks and pines, with some sections of sun, so on a hot day, it is not uncomfortable.
NOTE:  The hike is scheduled for Saturday as parking is at a Park-n-Ride Lot and it is jam-packed on weekdays.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  30 minutes driving time and 16 miles one way.  Return time to Lincoln — about 10:30 AM.  A donation of $3 is suggested for riders.  Driving directions — see below and print before coming to the hike, if driving.
