Downtown Sacramento Walk

DIFFICULTY: Easy

HIKE DISTANCE: 4-5 miles

GENERAL LOCATION: Downtown Sacramento

DESCRIPTION:  We will take light rail from the Watt Ave station to  the stop at 12th & K and will return by catching the light rail from  7th & K.   Stops along the way will be the Convention Center, the Catholic Cathedral, the State Capitol and the grounds including the rose garden and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, walking down J Street past City Hall, the Sacramento Jail, the Federal Courthouse, and Old Sacramento and the K Street Mall.  Hopefully we can get a docent tour of the Capitol.  If not we will still walk around the building on our own. 


TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  
30 minutes each way to Watt Avenue, about 18 miles.

SPECIAL NOTES:

 FACILITIES AVAILABLE: Restrooms are available at the State Capitol and Old Sac

PREPARATION FOR HIKE:  Light Rail 1 way ticket for seniors is $1.25 and there is a $1.00 parking fee at the light rail station at Watt Avenue.  Also bring money for lunch in Old Sac or bring a packed lunch to   eat near the river.  Suggested contribution to the drivers is $3.

 Bring a copy of your ID (driver’s license), health card, and emergency contact name and one number with you on the hike.  It is not necessary  to wear hiking boots unless you prefer.

 MEETING TIME: 8:15 at the parking lot by the blue mailbox and leaving for the light rail station at  8:30.  We will catch the 1st train departing after we arrive and park.  Parking lot is always crowded.  Return around 2:30.
