HIDDEN FALLS LOOP

DIFFICULTY:  Strenuous based on distance not elevation gain.

ELEVATION CHANGE:  +/- 750 feet.  Starting and ending elevation: 950 feet.  Lowest elevation:  200 feet.

HIKE DISTANCE:  9 miles –  loop hike

DESCRIPTION:  This hike will take us along the following trails in a clockwise direction:  Poppy, South Legacy Way, Pheasant, Golden Eagle Loop, Warbler, Cooper’s Hawk, Gold Finch, Salmon Run Bridge, Creek Side, North Legacy Way, Canyon View Bridge, Hidden Falls Access, and back up Poppy to the parking lot.  We will also hike to the Dennis Ratay Memorial Bench which is located 100 yards from the intersection of the South Legacy Way and the Great Egret Trail.  Hidden Falls trails both old and new are well groomed and provide enough grade to get your heart rate up.  These beautiful trails overlook Deadman and Coon Creeks.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:   ½ hour, 15 miles.  Suggested contribution to the driver:  $3.00.  Return time between 3:30 and 4:00.

SPECIAL NOTES:   Restrooms are located at the trail head parking lot and mile 4.8 at the Salmon Run Bridge.  Rain or very muddy trails will cancel the hike.  Check the web site the day before and morning of the hike. 

RISKS:

1.   We will be sharing the trails with an occasional mountain bicyclist and horse riders.  Last hike we had to dodge a single-wheeled skateboard.

2.   Poison Oak.

PREPARATION FOR HIKE:

1.   If you have any health issues please consider your condition before hiking.

2.   Bring a copy of your ID (drivers license), health card, and a name and phone number of an emergency contact person.

3.   Bring another pair of shoes with your hiking boots along with a bag to store your dirty gear.  Please be considerate of your driver’s car and wear clean shoes home.

4.   Bring water, lunch, sun screen, and hiking boots and Good & Plenty candy and a Payday candy bar for the hike leader and sweep so they can make the entire 9 miles.

5.   Trekking poles are always recommended.
