HIRSCHMAN TRAIL HIKE

DIFFICULTY:  Moderately easy

ELEVATION:  Starting elevation:  approximately 2500 feet.  Elevation change:  150 feet.

HIKE DISTANCE:  5 miles

GENERAL LOCATION:  Only a mile from the heart of downtown Nevada City. 

DESCRIPTION:  This is one of the many trails created by the Bear Yuba Land Trust (formerly called Nevada County Land Trust).  Completed in 2011 it winds through a lovely wooded environment not far from Highway 49.  The highpoint of the trail system is Hirschman Pond, named after the Hirschman brothers who were pioneer miners and merchants in the area. 
We will hike for 2 to 2 1/2 hours and have an early lunch at the Pond. 

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  1 hour driving time and approximately 40 miles one way.  Return time to Lincoln — approximately 1:00 pm.  A donation of $6 is suggested for riders.  If driving, please print the driving directions before coming to the hike — see below.

SPECIAL NOTES:  
     FACILITIES:  There is no bathroom at the trailhead.  We will stop at the Burger King and/or Jack in the Box in Grass Valley to use their restrooms before reaching the trailhead. 
     PREPARATION FOR HIKE:
        1)  Bring a copy of your ID (driver’s license), health card, and an emergency contact name and phone number with you when you hike.
        2)  If you have any health issues, please consider your condition before hiking.
        3)  Always bring 2 pairs of shoes, along with a plastic bag to store your muddy/dusty boots after the hike.
        4)  Bring lunch and water.  Trekking poles are not required, but are always recommended.
