GENERAL LOCATION:
Napa


DESCRIPTION:
This hike tours both high walls of Marie Creek canyon, visits Marie Lake and the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain (1,630’), and then finishes out alongside Marie Creek.  It is a very scenic hike with the views changing constantly. You start out with a 40 min. climb from 240' to 780' then after several ups and downs you reach the top at 1010'. There are spectacular views along the trail to the north up the Napa valley and westward towards Sonoma. After 2 hrs. of hiking you descend to the shore of Marie Lake for lunch. From Marie Lake the 2 hour trip back along the opposite side of the canyon is generally rolling. Lots of wildflowers, Oaks, Manzanita and Laurel Trees.  Well worth the trip.

     PREPARATION FOR HIKE:  Dress in layers for summer temperatures. Wear comfortable hiking shoes.  Bring a lunch and water.
