LINCOLN HILLS TO CAPERTON RESERVOIR

DIFFICULTY:  Moderate.

ELEVATION GAIN: 360 feet gain, start at 265 feet, highest is 625 feet.

HIKE DISTANCE: 7 miles total, out and back, not a loop hike.

DIRECTIONS: Hike starts and ends at blue mailbox in Orchard Creek Lodge parking lot.

HIKE ROUTE: Walk north on Sun City Blvd and turn right on Andover Lane. Please stay on sidewalks. At the end of Andover Lane, take the paved trail through the open space past the wetlands. Look for birds. Cross Hidden Hills Lane and continue on gravel trail. Look for nesting waterfowl in the pond. At the end of Boulder Court, continue on the gravel road to the water tanks, with views of the foothills. Continue on the road and turn left on the paved trail through the oak forest skirting Monte Azul. Cross Camino Verdera and continue on the paved trail up to Twelve Bridges Drive. Cross the road carefully in small groups. Turn left on the road at the entrance to Catta Verdera. Pass a small asphalt parking area on the left, accessible to the public, pass the road gate to the gravel access road. Walk along the gravel road, with views of the foothills, to the Caperton Canal. Continue on the dirt road along the canal to Caperton Reservoir,  which is fenced off. Return to the Orchard Creek Lodge by retracing the same route.

FOOD AND WATER: Bring water and a snack or lunch.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  None. No driving required.

FACILITIES:  Rest rooms at Orchard Creek Lodge.

PREPARATION FOR HIKE:  Sturdy boots or walking shoes are recommended.

BRING THE FOLLOWING: Bring a copy of your ID (driver's license), health card, and an emergency contact name and phone number with you on the hike.
