--- in and out (not a loop)
GENERAL LOCATION: Auburn
State Recreation Area --- 3 1/2 miles from the city of Auburn
DESCRIPTION: A news
article about scenic hikes listed this hike as one of the top ten scenic hikes
in the U.S.!
The trail starts at the confluence of the Middle and North Forks of the American River
and then follows the North Fork for 2 miles to Lake Clementine.
There are spectacular views of the North Fork
as well as a dramatic view of water flowing over North Fork Dam. The
trail is a good one --- most of it 2 person wide but there are sections that
are single track. One of the fun parts of this hike is going under the Foresthill Bridge
which towers 730 feet above the river and is the tallest bridge in California. Since the
hike is short, we will only have a snack at Lake Clementine
(not lunch) and be back at Lincoln Hills for lunch.
TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE: Travel time is about 35 minutes. The distance is
about 15 miles. Suggested donation to the driver is $3. We
expect to return to Lincoln Hills about noon.
