Hike to Cool Deli

DIFFICULTY: Moderate


ELEVATION GAIN:
1000 feet. Trail is nicely sloped so that there are no long steep stretches.


HIKE DISTANCE:
7 miles


GENERAL LOCATION:
Trailhead near the confluence of the Middle and North Forks of the American River at “No Hands Bridge”


DESCRIPTION:
The trail goes through many different vegetation types and across two beautiful little water falls. It ends in a broad meadow at the historic town of Cool. The return will be on the same trail with a different perspective of the terrain. There is one major overlook of the Middle Fork of the American River along the way.

 

LUNCH: Half way through the hike we will have lunch at the Cool Deli.

 

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE: Travel time to the trailhead is approximately 35 minutes. Return to Lincoln Hills around 2 PM. A contribution of $3.00 to the driver is recommended.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE: The bathroom stop will be in Auburn at the Save Mart.


PREPARATION FOR HIKE:
  Wear long pants and shirt sleeves because of poison oak along the trail.  Layered clothing is advised; it likely will be much warmer after lunch.

 

RISKS: Poison oak.
