Independence Trail

DIFFICULTY:   Moderate with some inclines

 

ELEVATION GAIN: 500 feet


HIKE DISTANCE:  
4 miles


GENERAL LOCATION:
South East of Nevada City on Highway 49


DESCRIPTION:  
The trail leads down to the Yuba River with interesting gold mining sluices and beautiful views.  Coming back up the pace will be slow in order to accommodate those not ‘in peak condition’. The hike will continue on the upper trail above the parking lot for another short loop.  Some carpools may choose to stop in Nevada City afterwards and walk through the historic downtown.

 

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes one way – 50 miles (a $6 driver donation).

FACILITIES AVAILABLE:  Porta potties at parking lot

     plenty of water and snacks / lunch.

RISKS:  Slight possibility of poison ivy along trail
