ELEVATION GAIN: 800 feet. - total climb 1200 feet
HIKE DISTANCE: 4.6 miles

GENERAL LOCATION: Auburn
State Recreation Area --- 3 1/2 miles from the city of Auburn
DESCRIPTION: The
first 1/4 mile has the steepest gradient, but affords great views of
the North Fork of the American River. The trail gains 800 feet in
2 miles. The different branches of the
trail differ greatly in difficulty - we hike on Stagecoach
Trail, Upper Stagecoach Trail, Flood Trail, and Mossy Branch Trail.
Some are a bit
rocky and muddy, many are relatively easy with short ups and
downs, but there are also fairly steep ups and downs There is a
large variety of topography. Along most
of the trail we will have lots of opportunity to view the features of
the confluence area: North and
Middle Forks of the American River, the Foresthill Bridge, and other
bridges.
This
is a relatively short hike, and some hikers may want to have lunch in
Auburn, rather than returning directly home. When we carpool, we
will try and set up cars accordingly.
TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE: Travel time is 35 minutes. The distance is 15

PREPARATION FOR HIKE:
1) IF YOU HAVE ANY HEALTH ISSUES, PLEASE CONSIDER
YOUR CONDITION BEFORE HIKING.
2) Bring a copy of your ID, health card info,
and an emergency contact name and phone number with you on the hike.
3) Always bring a change of shoes, along with
a plastic bag to store your muddy boots after the hike so you don’t get your
driver's car dirty.
4) Bring snack, water, hiking boots,
and ayered clothing for the cold weather. Trekking polesare
recommended for some difficult parts of the trail - but no water
crossings..
