DIFFICULTY: Easy, level loop hike.  Minimum elevation gain.

HIKE DISTANCE : 4.2 miles

GENERAL LOCATION: Near American River in Carmichael.

DESCRIPTION : This area is where the Maidu Nisenan people stayed in the summer to utilize the abundant wildlife and plants essential to their lifestyle. We will observe examples of shelters, grinding rocks and an acorn granary. Bring a snack or light lunch and camera.

RISKS: there is poison oak off of the trail.

TRAVEL TIME / DISTANCE : 25 miles, 40 minutes. A donation of $5 is suggested which will cover the parking fee. Directions will be provided for drivers.

 FACILITIES: Toilets at the gate and at the Visitor’s Center
  PREPARATION FOR HIKE:
  1. Bring a copy of your ID (driver’s license), health card, and an emergency contact phone number with you when you hike.
  2. If you have any health issues, please consider your condition before hiking.
  3. Always bring 2 pairs of shoes, along with a plastic bag to store your muddy/dusty boots after the hike.
  4. Bring lunch/snack, water, and hiking boots. Trekking poles are recommended.
