AMERICAN CANYON FALLS
Tuesday, July 1, 2008

DIFFICULTY:  moderately difficult

ELEVATION GAIN:  400 feet (start at 1800)

HIKE DISTANCE:  4 miles

GENERAL LOCATION:  East of Cool

DESCRIPTION:    This hike is another of my adventures (one of my fellow hike leader's words).  IT IS NOT EASY, but the rewards are threefold:  It is close, 90% in the shade, and the Falls are really nice.  We will have to scramble in two places (scramble to me means using arms and legs to get through the area) and we have two creeks to cross.  Note that we are leaving early to avoid the potential heat.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  35 minutes.  About 20 miles – a $3 contribution to the driver would be appropriate.  We will be back in Lincoln by lunchtime, unless you want to explore Auburn and have lunch there.

HIKE LEADER/SWEEP:  Clark Smith\lTBD

SPECIAL NOTES:

FACILITIES AVAILABLE:    none

PREPARATION FOR HIKE:   Read instructions on web page.  Bring your hiking poles.  Good tread on your hiking shoes (or preferably hightop boots) is important.
RISKS:   Some slick trail areas.  Poison oak is likely.
