AUBURN — CHINA BAR KIOSK TO OREGON BAR
TUESDAY, JANUARY 19, 2016
THURSDAY, JANUARY 21, 2016

DIFFICULTY:  Moderately strenuous — due to hiking all downhill to the river, and all uphill on the return

ELEVATION GAIN:  Approximately 700 feet elevation gain, starting about 1200 ft at the trailhead, and about 350 ft. at the river

HIKE DISTANCE:  Approximately 5 miles — in and out, not a loop

GENERAL LOCATION:  In Auburn State Recreation Area

DESCRIPTION:  Starting from the China Bar Kiosk on Maidu Drive, we will hike down to the North Fork of the American River.  On the way we will stop at a memorial bench, an overlook, to view the river.  As we continue our hike, we will see the amazing Knickerbocker Waterfall, a series of cascading falls that can only be seen from this particular trail.  An early lunch will be at the rIver’s edge — enjoying the magnificent scenery of the North Fork!  On the return trip, be prepared for some steep uphill sections — actually it is all uphill!!

The nice part about this hike is that there is relatively little mud — there are sections of asphalt, and sections of gravel.  There is also one rocky dirt section —“Cardiac Bypass” trail.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  30 minutes driving time and 15 miles one way.  Return time to
Lincoln — approximately 2:00 pm.  A donation of $3 is suggested for riders.  Driving directions — see below and please print before coming to the hike, if driving.
