DEER CREEK TRIBUTE TRAIL
IN HONOR OF SUE GEISLER
THURSDAY, SEPT 21, 2023

DIFFICULTY:  Moderate—well-maintained trail with some ups and downs

ELEVATION:  Negligible elevation gain: starts about 2,500 feet-2,700 feet

HIKE DISTANCE: About 6 ½ miles (not a loop)

GENERAL LOCATION:  Starting just west of Nevada City and traversing the Deer Creek Tribute and Deer Creek Environs Trails

DESCRIPTION:  This was a favorite hike of Sue Geisler’s, who planned and led it several times. She was so pleased to hear that we will continue to hike it in her honor.  Bring a special memory of Sue to share along the trail.

Deer Creek Environs Trail starts near Nevada City, crossing an impressive suspension bridge high above the creek to a wooded loop with interpretive panels recognizing the early Nisenans. Returning across the bridge, the Deer Creek Tribute Trail follows the historic Newtown Canal with a side trail down to Stocking Flat where we will have lunch. The elegant Chinese Bridge again crosses the creek, accessing a 0.6 mile wooded loop with views across the canyon and creek.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE: 43 miles one way, one hour driving time. Return time to Lincoln approximately 3:30 PM. $12 donation to drivers is suggested.
