El Dorado Trail

Difficulty: Easy/Moderate - moderate because of
continuous uphill climb.
Elevation/Elevation Gain: Trailhead
2200 feet elevation, gain of about 400 feet.
Hike Distance: 5
miles round-trip.
Location: just
east of downtown Placerville, off Hwy. 50 at Mosquito Rd.
Description: Paved
trail that has a gradual, steady climb. Pines and oaks line
most
of the trail that passes through Smith Flat and continues east to a
pedestrian bridge that crosses Hwy. 50. We'll have a snack
break
after crossing the bridge, then turn around and return to the trailhead.
Travel Time/Distance: 1
hour each way/round-trip 100 miles. Suggested contribution to
driver, $9. Return to Lincoln, around 1:00 p.m. The return
time
would be later for those who may choose to stay for lunch on their own
in downtown Placerville where there are several
restaurants. Some well-liked restaurants include
Sweetie
Pies, the Independent, and the Hey Day Cafe.

Notes:
1)
If you have any health issues, please consider your condition
before hiking.
2)
Bring a copy of your ID, health card, and an emergency
contact name and phone number with you on the hike.
3)
Hiking boots recommended. Trekking poles at your
discretion, not necessary.
4)
Bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and a hat.
Risks: One short
section of the hike goes through a quiet side street with no
sidewalks.On a windy road there is one street crossing with a
crosswalk.
This
is also a bike trail so stay alert and watch for cyclists.
