Flora Lake Hike

DIFFICULTY: Moderate due to high altitude.

ELEVATION GAIN: Starting elevation at Donner Summit PCT parking lot 7,070 feet. Flora Lake Overlook elevation about 7,500 feet. Elevation gain about 430 feet.

HIKE DISTANCE: 5 miles total, up and back down, not a loop hike.

DESCRIPTION: Start from PCT parking lot. Follow the PCT to an unmarked spur trail on the right to Azalea Lake and Flora Lake. Climb up to an overlook on the way back.

LUNCH: Bring lunch. Bring plenty of water.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  Approximately 75 minute drive, 60 miles. Donation of $9 is suggested for riders.

HIKE LEADER/SWEEP:  Leader Dan Cortinovis. Sweep Wilma Cortinovis

FACILITIES AVAILABLE:  Two pit toilets at PCT Trailhead near Boreal Ski Area.

PREPARATIONS FOR HIKE:           

1. Bring a copy of your ID, Health Card, emergency contact name and phone number.

2. If you have any health issues, please consider your condition before hiking.

3. Bring extra shoes and a plastic bag to store your muddy/dusty boots after the hike.

4. Bring hiking boots, poles if you use them, sunscreen, insect repellent, water, food.

RISKS:  High elevation hiking can cause altitude sickness. There may be bugs.

MEETING TIME:  Meet at 7:30 PM in the Orchard Creek Parking Lot Section 14 near the fitness center. Leave at 7:45. Return to Lincoln Hills by 3:00 PM.
