Jenkinson Lake
Thursday, May 26, 2022
DIFFICULTY:
Moderate
HIKE DISTANCE: 7.5 miles
ELEVATION GAIN: 50-60 feet maximum elevation gain.
GENERAL LOCATION: On the edge of El Dorado National Forest, off US 50 about 15 miles beyond Placerville.
DESCRIPTION: This is an in-and-out hike on one side
of the lake. The trail
is dirt and pine needles on dirt, in forest all the way. It is shady and goes mostly along the lake,
up and down small hills—it is not flat. Dogwoods are in bloom, and this should be a particulary beautiful hike if you can go the distance. We will stop briefly to see the waterfall (sometimes the
canal water has been turned off and there’s no water). Then we
continue to picnic tables and have lunch.
We return on the same trail.
TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE: About
63 miles one way with a travel time of 1hour and 30 or 40 minutes. The
suggested donation to the driver is $9 (plus a $5 per car parking fee). Expected return to SCLH about 4:30pm.
HIKE LEADER/SWEEP: Cathy Hoyt, leader -
sweep TBD
FACILITIES: There are restrooms in the parking area, and
near the lunch site.
