Nimbus Fish Hatchery to Willow Creek Park

Difficulty: Easy

Elevation Gain: Mostly Flat with small ups and downs.

Hike Distance:  Approximately 4.7- 5 miles

Location: Lake Natomas/Folsom

Description:  We will park and hike from the parking lot at Nimbus Fish Hatchery.  We will follow the trail to the Aquatic Park for an initial bathroom stop.  The wide trail is mostly paved and also used by biker and runner. ( Always stay on the left side of the trail.) This hike will be along the American River Parkway Trail.  There will be many views of the American River and the trail will also take us through oak woodlands with many active birds. We will walk across a foot bridge (see Pre hike photo) on our way to stop at Willow Creek Park.  When we reach the park, we will stop to eat at the picnic tables enjoying beautiful river views.  Following lunch, we will retrace our steps back to the parking lot at the Fish Hatchery.
 
Travel Time/Distance:  45 minutes, 20 miles one way. Rider to pay $ 6.00 to driver.

Special Notes:

Facilities Available:  There are bathroom facilities at the start in the Aquatic Center and at Willow Creek Park.

Preparation for Hike: No hiking sticks necessary since we will be on a paved trail. Consider health issues prior to hike.  Bring a copy of your drivers’ license, health care info and emergency contact.  Bring a second pair of shoes with a plastic bag to store your muddy or dusty shoes after the hike.  Do not get your drivers car dirty on the way home.

Rain that day will cancel the hike.
