NORTH ROCKLIN PARKS

DIFFICULTY:  Easy/Moderate.

ELEVATION GAIN: Not significant.

HIKE DISTANCE: 3 Hikes averaging 2.5 miles each, total 7.5 miles

HIKE 1 WILSON PARK: Drive west on Del Webb Blvd and turn left on East Joiner Parkway. Pass the Chevron gas station on your right and turn left into the Wilson Park parking lot after about 0.5 mile. Hike the packed granite trail along the wetlands. Cross Oak Valley Drive and continue on the trail trough the oak forest along Orchard Creek to South Creek Drive area. Return to the parking lot by retracing the same route.

HIKE 2 WHITNEY PARK: Leaving Wilson Park, turn left on East Joiner Parkway, which changes name to Wildcat Blvd, and drive south about 1.5 miles. Pass Whitney High School on the left. Make a U-turn at the stoplight at Whitney Ranch Parkway and turn right into the Whitney Park parking lot. Hike the asphalt path along the south side of Pleasant Grove Creek. Stop to admire the native plant garden before carefully crossing Spring Creek Drive. Cross the creek on the asphalt path and continue to the end on the north side. Return to the parking lot by retracing the same route.

HIKE 3 BOULDER PARK: Continue driving south on Wildcat Blvd by turning right from the Wilson Park parking lot and making a U-turn by Whitney High School. Turn left on West Stanford Ranch Road. Turn left at Park Drive by the shopping center. Follow Park Drive to the highest point in Rocklin at Boulder Park. Park in the parking lot and hike the paved path through the park with possible views of the Sacramento Valley and Coast Range on the west and Clover Valley and the High Sierra on the east. Continue past the water reservoirs and go around the fence to the gravel road. Hike along the gravel road to its end at Caperton Reservoir. Return to the parking lot by retracing the same route.

FOOD AND WATER: Bring water and a snack or lunch.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  About 40 minutes of driving for a round trip of 20 miles. Donation of $3 is suggested for riders. Directions will be handed out to all drivers.

FACILITIES:  Rest rooms at Wilson and Whitney Parks, but not at Boulder Park.

PREPARATION FOR HIKE:  Sturdy boots or walking shoes are recommended.

IF YOU HAVE ANY HEALTH ISSUES, PLEASE CONSIDER YOUR CONDITION BEFORE HIKING.

BRING THE FOLLOWING: Bring a copy of your ID (driver's license), health card, and an emergency contact name and phone number with you on the hike.

ABOUT YOUR FOOTWEAR: Always bring two pairs of shoes, along with a plastic bag to store your muddy/dusty hiking boots after the hike.  Do not get your driver's car dirty by wearing your dirty boots on the drive home.

RISKS:  Watch for traffic when crossing roadways.
