SACRAMENTO WATERFRONT LOOP
TUESDAY, MARCH 1, 2011

DIFFICULTY: Easy; great trail for walkers

ELEVATION: Maximum 40 feet

HIKE DISTANCE: Approximately 4 miles

GENERAL LOCATION: Old Town Sacramento

DESCRIPTION: From the California State Railroad Museum we will walk through Old Town Sacramento to the famous Tower Bridge with vistas of  the Sacramento River, cross the bridge and walk along the east side of the river (looking back at the Delta King Hotel and Old Town). This area has many interpretive signs on the history and ecology of the river. We will cross back over the river using the I Street Bridge. From there we will walk north along the river to the Jibboom Street Bridge and cross into Discovery Park. We will enjoy the vistas and walk back to Old Town for lunch. The trail is paved or asphalt the whole way.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE: It takes about 40 minutes to drive to Old Town and get parked. It is around 33 miles one way. A donation of $6 is suggested for drivers.  With 4 people in a car, parking costs will be between 2 &3 dollars per person. This can be divided up after you get parking amount; costs are based upon half hour increments.

HIKE LEADER: Jim Cutler    Sweep: Gail Cutler

SPECIAL NOTES:

-There are restroom facilities in Old Town and Discovery Park.
-There are 47 steps up to the walking level on the I Street Bridge.
-There are numerous lunch choices. We recommend either the Indo Café (an inexpensive Indonesian Restaurant- around $6 or 7 dollars) or next door is an inexpensive place with clam chowder and fish items. For those that wish to take a lunch there are many available benches.
-Old Town is filled with things to do after the hike.  If ALL in a car agree to stay longer to enjoy Old Town it is up to you. The Railroad Museum is $5 dollars; you can even get a tattoo!
