PACIFIC CREST TRAIL (PCT) — HWY. 80 TO HWY. 40 THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 2105
DIFFICULTY:
Moderately strenuous. Moderate because the ups and downs are not
steep, but strenuous because of the high elevation (7200 +).
ELEVATION: Starting elevation - 7220 ft., Lowest elevation - 6940 ft., Highest elevation - 7300 ft.
HIKE DISTANCE: About 6 1/2 miles. An “in and out” hike, not a loop.
GENERAL LOCATION: At Donner Summit, starting at the Pacific Crest Trailhead off Hwy. 80.
DESCRIPTION:
With warm to hot temperatures in the Sacramento Valley in June, this
high elevation hike offers cooler air and more pleasant hiking.
This Pacific Crest Trail section lies between highways 80 and 40,
giving hikers a wonderful trek through open and forested areas. Large
granite formations, views of Castle Peak and Donner Lake,
wildflowers, and some small lakes are a few of the delights of this
area. Lunch will be on some granite rocks overlooking Angela or
Flora Lake.
TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:
90 minutes driving time and 70 miles one way. Return time to
Lincoln — approximately 4:00 pm. A donation of $10 is
suggested for riders. Driving directions — see below and print
before coming to the hike, if driving.
