PRIVATE HIKE Placer Land Trust- Wildflowers at Big Hill Preserve April 25, 2024 ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED: Register in advance directly with Placer Land Trust at this link. Limited to 30 hikers. You will receive a confirmation email with details, including a link to PLT’s required online waiver. It’s easy to sign with your mouse. Be sure to complete the waiver by Tuesday afternoon before the hike. TRAIL CONDITIONS: Uphill and downhill travel, uneven ground, and some rough terrain. May be muddy in places. ELEVATION: Trailhead about 1,000 feet – about 500 feet elevation gain HIKE DISTANCE: 5 miles GENERAL LOCATION: North Auburn, NE of Hidden Falls Regional Park DESCRIPTON: Botanist Monica Finn, Placer Land Trust Docent, will lead our group on this special wildflower-viewing hike. Big Hill Preserve is not open to the public. The trail has undulating hills with open grasslands punctuated by oak woodlands, unusual rock formations, and panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada foothills and Sacramento Valley. Lunch on the rocks! Hike will proceed with light rain. Steady rain cancels--you will be notified by email the evening before. TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE: 18 miles, 35 minutes. Suggested donation to driver $3. PREPERATION FOR HIKE: 1) If you have any Health issues, please consider your condition before hiking 2) Bring copy of your ID (drivers license), health insurance card, and an emergency contact name and phone number with you on the hike. 3) Always bring a pair of clean shoes along with your hiking boots, along with a bag to store your dirty hiking boots on the drive home 4) Wear hiking boots, clothing appropriate for the weather conditions, (PLT suggests long pants), and a hat and sunscreen. Bring plenty of water and lunch. Trekking poles recommended. MEETING TIME: 8:15 AM. LEAVE AT 8:30
