DIFFICULTY:  Moderate

 

ELEVATION GAIN:  About 600 feet.  Highest elevation is about 6900 feet.

 

HIKE DISTANCE:  About 7 miles total.

 

GENERAL LOCATION:  Grouse Ridge off of Highway 20, near Highway 80.

 

DESCRIPTION:  We will walk the Round Lake Trail past the Crooked Lakes Trail to Round Lake and Long Lake.  Then, back to the Crooked Lakes Trail to Penner Lake.  We will have lunch at Penner Lake.

 

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  Two hours each way.  About 72 miles.  This is a $12 driver donation.

SPECIAL NOTES:

            FACILITIES AVAILABLE:  A restroom is about ½ mile past the trailhead.

            PREPARATIONS FOR HIKE:  Refer to #8 and #9 in the Guidelines.  Bring lunch and water and hiking boots.

            RISKS:  We will need a SUV type vehicle for each 5 hikers because of a 2 ½ mile section of road that is very rough.  

                            There may be lots of mosquitos - bring repellant.
