DIFFICULTY:
Moderate/Strenuous due to high elevation.
ELEVATION GAIN: Starting elev near Donner
Summit 7,100 feet. Highest elev Castle Pass about 7,900 feet via PCT. Then down
to Peter Grubb Hut at elev 7,800 feet.
HIKE DISTANCE: 6 miles total, up, over,
down, back up, back down, not a loop hike.
DESCRIPTION:
Peter Grubb Hut was built in 1939 by friends and family as a memorial to Peter
Grubb, who died on a bicycling tour of Europe at the age of 18.
LUNCH: Lunch or snack at edge of meadow
near hut. Views of peaks.
TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:
Approximately 75 minutes driving and 60 miles. Return time to Lincoln
mid-afternoon. A donation of $9 is suggested for riders.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE:
Two pit toilets at PCT Trailhead near Boreal Ski Area.
PREPARATIONS FOR HIKE:
1. Bring a copy of your ID (driver's license),
Health Card, and an emergency contact name and phone number with you when you
hike.
2.
If you have any health issues, please consider your condition before hiking.
3.
Always bring two pairs of shoes, along with a plastic bag to store your
muddy/dusty hiking boots after the hike. Do not get your driver's car
dirty by wearing your dirty boots on the drive home.
4.
Bring hiking boots, sunscreen, insect repellent, water, snack
RISKS:
High elevation hiking can cause altitude sickness. Mosquitos may be
present.
