PROSSER CREEK RESERVOIR

DIFFICULTY:  Moderately Easy.

ELEVATION: Starting at 5,800 feet, minimal gain.

HIKE DISTANCE: Hike 5-6 miles in a semi-loop.

HIKE DESCRIPTION: Hike from the Donner Party Picnic Area on Highway 89 near Truckee to Prosser Creek Reservoir and back in a loop on dirt trails through pine forest. Walk the interpretive trail for one of the Donner Party sites (Not Donner State Park).

FOOD AND WATER: Bring water and food or have lunch in Truckee after the hike.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  About 90 minutes to drive 85 miles one way. Donation of $12 is suggested for riders.

FACILITIES:  Vault toilets at Donner Party Picnic Area hike starting point.

PREPARATION FOR HIKE:  Sturdy boots or walking shoes are recommended.

BRING THE FOLLOWING: Bring a copy of your ID (driver's license), health card, and an emergency contact name and phone number with you on the hike.

ABOUT YOUR FOOTWEAR: Always bring two pairs of shoes, along with a plastic bag to store your muddy/dusty hiking boots after the hike.

RISKS:  Watch for mountain bikes on single track trails.

HEAVY RAIN ON DAY OF HIKE OR DAY BEFORE CANCELS HIKE DUE TO MUD.

MEETING LOCATION: Orchard Creek Lodge parking lot Row 14 near fitness center.

TAHOE-TRUCKEE PEOPLE: Meet us at Donner Party Picnic Area at 8:45 am.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: I-80 to Exit 188B just past Truckee. Turn left on Highway 89 towards Sierraville. Go straight through two roundabouts on Highway 89. Drive three miles north on Highway 89 to Donner Party Picnic Area on right.
