Tuesday, October 25, 2022

DIFFICULTY:   Easy-Moderate

ELEVATION GAIN:  Flat hard packed earth and paved trails (some up and downs)

HIKE DISTANCE:  7 miles OR 4 miles (at ones discretion – see below)

GENERAL LOCATION:  Rancho Cordova

DESCRIPTION:  Starting in Sunrise Recreation Area off Sunrise Blvd. and proceed 4.0 miles west along earth paths alongside Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail, passing thru Rossmore Bar to Hagan Community Park. This is a generally remote path alongside the American River, and will be out 4 miles in length. At the Park we will board a 1- ½ scale train belonging to Sacramento Valley Live Steamers Railroad Museum for a short ride to their picnic area. Following snack / lunch break, we will proceed back to the start on an inland route to the start. The return is about 3 miles. Single file dirt paths and paved, divided pathway along the south side of the American River. This is woodland along the river with lots of oaks, pines, willows, and open grass lands. A suggested $2.00 donation for the train ride to the SVLSRM which is a volunteer non-profit organization. Again, those wishing to travel just the first 4 miles out, we will have those rest under the shady trees for about 1 hour and will arrange for a shuttle back to the cars.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE: 40 miles \ 40 minutes travel each way. This is a $6 driver donation.  Plus, there is a $5.00 parking fee collected in the parking lot, to be shared. Detailed driving directions will be handed out to all drivers
