SHINGLE FALLS

DIFFICULTY: Moderate. Steep,rocky areas near the falls.

HIKE DISTANCE : 5.5 miles, 400 foot altitude gain

GENERAL LOCATION: North of Lincoln in Spenceville Wildlife Area

DESCRIPTION :  This trail is mostly gravel road in the foothills. It is also known as Beale or Fairy Falls. Part of the trail is single track trail through oak groves and meadows with views of the Sacramento Valley. With some warmer weather we can expect wildflowers. In mid-February the falls had plenty of water and were quite spectacular.

RISKS: Some poison oak off of the trail; use caution near the rushing stream.

TRAVEL TIME / DISTANCE : 1 hour/ 25 miles. Suggested gas donation to driver $4.00

SPECIAL NOTES:
 FACILITIES: NONE. USE RESTROOMS AT ORCHARD CREEK BEFORE LEAVING. NO GAS STATIONS AFTER LEAVING LINCOLN.           
 PREPARATION FOR HIKE:
  1. Bring a copy of your ID (driver’s license), health card, and an emergency contact phone number with you when you hike.
  2. If you have any health issues, please consider your condition before hiking.
  3. Always bring 2 pairs of shoes, along with a plastic bag to store your muddy/dusty boots after the hike.
  4. Bring lunch/snack, water, and hiking boots. Trekking poles are recommended.
