ELEVATION GAIN: 2,000 feet

HIKE DISTANCE: About a 8 mile Loop

GENERAL LOCATION: Napa,   For info including a map go to skylinepark.org 

DESCRIPTION: This hike tours both high walls of Marie Creek canyon, visits Marie Lake and the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain (1,630’). It is a very scenic hike with the views changing constantly. We start out with a climb from 240' to Sugarloaf Peak at 1630’ . There are spectacular views along the trail to the north up the Napa valley and westward towards Sonoma. From the summit of Sugarloaf Peak we descend  950’  to the shore of Marie Lake for lunch. From Marie Lake the trip back along the opposite side of the canyon is generally rolling. with   wildflowers, Oaks, Manzanita and Laurel Trees.  Well worth the trip.

SPECIAL NOTES:

     FACILITIES AVAILABLE: Restrooms at park entrance

     PREPARATION FOR HIKE:    1)  IF YOU HAVE ANY HEALTH ISSUES, PLEASE CONSIDER YOUR CONDITION BEFORE HIKING.
        2) Bring a copy of your ID (driver's license), health card, and an emergency contact name and phone number with you on the hike.
        3) Always bring 2 pairs of shoes, along with a plastic bag to store your muddy/dusty hiking boots after the hike.  DO NOT get your driver's car dirty by wearing your dirty boots on the way home.
        4). Dress in layers. Even in cool weather you can get hot hiking.  Wear comfortable hiking boots.  Hiking poles are always advised.  Bring a lunch and water.

     RISKS: Sunburn.  Do not forget sun screen.
