TRAYLOR RANCH HIKE
Tuesday, June 17, 2014

DIFFICULTY:  Easy

ELEVATION:  At about 600 feet.   Trail is flat — no ups or downs!

HIKE DISTANCE:  3 to 3 1/2 miles

GENERAL LOCATION:  Penryn area

DESCRIPTION:  This is the closest nature area to Lincoln Hills (only 15 minutes away) — and a wonderful place for a morning’s explore!!  The full name of the area is Traylor Ranch Bird Sanctuary and Nature Reserve — and it is an 88 acre gem that land owners Art and Helene Traylor donated to Placer County in 1988 for a Park.  They wanted the public to enjoy the beauty and wonder of nature as they did!!   We will take about 2 hours to walk the various trails and see the sights.  All you need to bring is a snack and water — we will be back at Lincoln Hills for lunch.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  A 6 mile drive one way and travel time of 15 minutes.  Suggested donation for riders is $1 (a real bargain!!).  Return time to Lincoln Hills — approximately
10:45 AM.  Driving directions — see below and please print before coming to the hike, if driving.

HIKE LEADER:  Sue Geisler  SWEEP:  TBD

SPECIAL NOTES:
FACILITIES:  No bathroom at the trailhead.  A portable bathroom about a mile into the hike.  It’s best to use the Fitness Center bathrooms before leaving Lincoln Hills.
PREPARATION FOR HIKE:  Most of the the trails are narrow with some hay or straw covering so footing could be unsteady, so hiking boots would be best, but athletic shoes are OK.  Bring water and a snack — and a hat and sunscreen as well.  The trails are a mix of sun and shade.
        1.  Bring a copy of your ID (Driver’s License), health card, and an emergency contact name and phone number with you when you hike.
        2.  If you have any health issues, please consider your condition before hiking.
        3.  Always bring 2 pairs of shoes along with a plastic bag to store your dusty boots after the hike.
        4.  Bring a snack and water.  Trekking poles are not necessary but wonderful to use to prevent tripping!

RISKS:  No poison oak, mosquitoes, or ticks were noted on the prehike.  Some of the narrow trails have uneven ground due to the straw covering.
