William B Pond Recreation Area
On the American River Parkway

Tuesday  February 1, 2011

DIFFICULTY
:  Easy – flat along the American River Bike Path

HIKE DISTANCE:  5 mile loop within the park

GENERAL LOCATION:  American River Parkway  near Carmichael

DESCRIPTION:   William B. Pond recreation area is one of the most well established and popular parks along the river.   This area was named after the first Regional Parks Director, William B. Pond.  This park connects with the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail (The American River Bike Path)  and is an excellent spot for a picnic lunch.  A walking bridge over the American River  (Harold Richey Memorial Bridge) connects this site with the River Bend Park on the south side of the river.  Since this is on a paved path, the hike will not be cancelled unless it is raining hard or it is very windy.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  45 minutes driving time and approximately 25 miles one way.    Return to Lincoln – approximately 2:00 PM.  Bring a pack lunch to eat when we stop for a picnic, hopefully near the river’s edge where we can see the riverflow during a wet winter in the Sacramento area.  A donation of $3 is suggested for riders and another $1 to help with the parking fee.

HIKE LEADER/SWEEP: Joyce Clark / sweep TBA
