 1400 feet


HIKE DISTANCE:
Approximately 7 1/4  miles


GENERAL LOCATION:
Auburn Recreation Area. Trail head is on the Old Forest 

Hill Road just past the confluence of the North & Middle Forks of the American

River.

DESCRIPTION:   This will be a leisurely day hike.  The first trail goes along 

the middle fork of the river and climbs 450 feet.  Then we’ll take a snack break at 

the ORV Park to rest up for the big 950 foot climb.   We start up on Rocky Trail 

(short but steep) and then up Murder’s Trail (a long steep climb).  We can take the 

climbe as slow as we want and stop when we need to catch our breath.  Then 

there will be a more gradual climb, crossing old Foresthill Road and new Foresthill 

Road to our lunch stop at the road leading down to Clementine Lake.  After lunch 

we will descend down the road and a trail back to the car.

 

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  Travel time is about 30 minutes.  Suggested donation to the driver is $3.  We should be back in Lincoln Hilles by 2:30 PM.

SPECIAL NOTES:

FACILITIES AVAILABLE: Pit toilet at the trailhead and another one about one third of the way through the hike.


PREPARATION FOR HIKE:
  Bring lunch, a snack, water, hiking boots, and poles. 

 

RISKS: Some of our trail will be rocky.
