Cronin Ranch to American River

DIFFICULTY:  Moderate/Strenuous  - because of the distance

 

ELEVATION GAIN:   Trail has a  moderate gain.

 

HIKE DISTANCE:   About 11 miles (6 miles in and 5 miles out, not a loop)

 

GENERAL LOCATION:   Highway 49, about 5 miles South of Cool

 

DESCRIPTION:   Our hike will take us along the West ridge of the Cronan Ranch  down to the South Fork of the American River with beautiful views of the Coloma-Lotus Valley and the South Fork American River Canyon.  We will have lunch sitting on multi level rocks by the river.  Near our lunch spot is a swimming holes known as Satan's Cess Pool,  where in February you can cool your feet, rather than freeze your whole body.

 

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  45 minutes driving time and about 28 miles one way.  Return time to Lincoln will be about 3:30 pm.  A donation of $6 is suggested for riders.  Detailed driving directions will be handed out to all drivers.

SPECIAL NOTES:

            FACILITIES AVAILABLE:   Non-flush bathroom at the trailhead.

            PREPARATIONS FOR HIKE:   See #8 Standard Hiking Equipment and #9 Guidelines for Hiking information on our website.  Hiking boots, water, & lunch.  Trekking poles necessarily because of a stream crossing.
