TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2009
DIFFICULTY:
Easy
ELEVATION: Starting elevation --- about 600 ft. Highest
elevation ---- about 800 ft.
HIKE DISTANCE: Approximately 5 miles.
Part of our journey will be in and out, and part will be a

GENERAL LOCATION: On Hwy.49 --- between the towns of Cool and
Coloma.
DESCRIPTION:
Magnolia Ranch adjoins Cronan Ranch --- and both parks are
popular for hiking, horseback riding, and some biking.
Trails criss-cross the area and allow access to the South Fork of
the American River, which is one of the most popular rafting
rivers in the US! Our hike will take us along the
river, then a very short uphill, down to cross two creeks (easy
crossing!) and uphill (moderate switchbacks of less than one
mile) to a delightful overview of the South Fork and part of
Cronan Ranch. We will have an early lunch about 11:15 AM,
on a hilltop overlooking the river. The area is oak woodland
with wonderful views at many points along the trail. Come
and enjoy a lovely Fall outing!!
TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE: 50 minutes driving time and 27 miles one
way. Return time to Lincoln will be between 1:00 & 1:30 pm. A
donation of $4 is suggested for riders. Detailed driving directions will
be handed out to all drivers.
