MAGNOLIA RANCH HIKE

DIFFICULTY:  Easy

ELEVATION:  Starting elevation --- about 600 ft.   Highest elevation  ---- about 800 ft.

HIKE DISTANCE:  Approximately 5 miles.  Part of our journey will be in  and out, and part will be a loop.

GENERAL LOCATION:  On Hwy.49 --- between the towns of Cool and Coloma.

DESCRIPTION:  Magnolia Ranch adjoins Cronan Ranch --- and both parks  are popular for hiking, horseback riding, and some biking.  Trails criss-cross the area and allow access to the South Fork of the American River, which is one of the most popular rafting rivers in the US!   Our hike will take us along the river, then a very short uphill,  down to cross two creeks (easy crossing!) and uphill (moderate  switchbacks of less than one mile) to a delightful overview of the  South Fork and part of Cronan Ranch.  We will have an early lunch  about 11:15 AM, on a hilltop overlooking the river.  The area is oak woodland with wonderful views at many points along the trail.  Come  and enjoy a lovely Fall outing!!

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  50 minutes driving time and 27 miles one way.   Return time to Lincoln will be between 1:00 & 1:30 pm.   A donation of  $4 is suggested for riders.  Detailed driving directions will be handed out to all drivers.

SPECIAL NOTES:

      FACILITIES:  Two portable bathrooms at the trailhead.
      PREPARATION FOR HIKE:  See #8 Standard Hiking Equipment and #9 Guidelines for Hiking information on this website.  Hiking boots,  water, lunch, trekking poles  (recommended but not required).
      RISKS:  Trail is dusty in some sections due to use by horses ---  also horse "apples" are in some places.

RAIN THE DAY BEFORE OR THE DAY OF THE HIKE CANCELS THE HIKE. 
Check the website the morning of the hike if uncertain if hike is "on" or  cancelled.
