NAME: Lake Natoma Loop with Lunch in Folsom mid way through hike.

MEETING TIME: 8:30 AM at Orchard Creek Fitness Center Parking Lot, near blue mail box.

LEAVING TIME: 8:45 AM

HIKE DISTANCE: 11 1/2 miles

ELEVATION: Relatively flat.

DIFFICULTY: Strenuous because of the distance.

FACILITIES: Bathrooms at the trailhead (Nimbus Fish Hatchery) and along the trail.

GENERAL LOCATION: Lake Natoma just upstream of the Nimbus Fish Hatchery located just west of Hazel Ave. near Hwy. 50.

TRAVEL TIME/RETURN TIME: 45 minutes each way. We will drive down Sierra College/Hazel Avenue. Just across the American River and just before Hwy 50, turn right on Gold Country Drive and immediately right into the Fish Hatchery Parking Lot. Should be back home around 3:30 PM.

(Note: you will be close to the Folsom Outlet Stores in case you want to shop after the hike.)

RIDERS: Based on the length of the drive, a per-person monetary contribution for gas would be appreciated. To be given to driver at beginning of the drive.

HIKE PREPARATION: Refer to #8 - "Standard Hiking Equipment" and #9- "Guidelines for Hiking" on the "Hike Information and Guidelines" Handout (see above how to obtain handout). Bring water, a snack and clothing suitable for the day's weather forecast. The trail is asphalt and hard-packed dirt so well-cushioned tennis shoes are best. Bring money for lunch. We will have lunch in histori c Old Town Folsom at Hacienda Del Rio at the half-way point during the hike.

RISKS: Check with leader.

DESCRIPTION: Hike around Lake Natoma, which is the Folsom Afterbay. The lake provides the aquatic center for kayak sporting events. There are lots of historic markers along the way relating to the Gold Rush Days. Aquatic waterfowl are usually abundant.
