OLMSTEAD LOOP HIKE
TUESDAY,  JANUARY 6. 2009


DIFFICULTY:  Moderate

ELEVATION:  Starting elevation - 1518 ft.  Highest elevation - approx. 1600 ft.   Lowest elevation - approx. 1350 ft.

HIKE DISTANCE:  Approximately  8 1/2 miles

GENERAL LOCATION:  Next to the small town of Cool in the Auburn State 
Recreation Area

DESCRIPTION:   Rolling hills with marvelous old oak trees and gray pines,  grassy meadows,  a canyon descent,  views of the distant mountains ---- lots of openness ---- these are the pleasures you will see on this hike.  Traversing this area you will enjoy a variety of ups and downs (nothing too strenuous) with one short descent into Knickerbocker Canyon.

Come and enjoy this hike ---- close to Lincoln --- and start 2009 with a goal to get more exercise in the New Year!!

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  Travel time is 30 minutes and distance is 19 miles.  Suggested donation for riders is $3.
Return time to Lincoln will be about 2:00 to 2:30 pm.   Time spent hiking --- about 4 hours.

SPECIAL NOTES:


    FACITILITES AVAILABLE:
  One nonflush toilet at the trailhead
    PREPARATION FOR HIKE:  Hiking boots, water, lunch, and layered clothing if cold.  Recommend trekking poles, if you have them.
    RISKS:   May be muddy in some sections if heavy rain precedes the hike, but we will attempt to avoid those areas.


RAIN THE DAY BEFORE OR THE DAY OF THE HIKE WILL CANCEL THE HIKE.
