DIFFICULTY: Strenuous

ELEVATION GAIN:
Starts at about 1500 ft., drops down to sea level, and climbs back to 1500 ft.

HIKE DISTANCE:
8 mile loop

GENERAL LOCATION:
Mt. Tamalpais Park, Southwest of San Rafael.

DESCRIPTION:
We will start at Pantoll Ranger Station and hike down toward Stinson Beach by way of the Matt Davis trail and return by way of the Dipsea trail and the Steep Ravine trail. The Steep Ravine trails is - guess what - steep; a 1000 foot climb in 1.5 miles.  This trail passes two interesting waterfalls on Webb Creek. A ten-foot ladder helps in ascending the trail at one of the falls.

Some of us may want to stop for dinner on the way home. We will decide when we carpool.

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE: 2 ½ hr. drive to Pantoll Ranger Station. Return to Lincoln Hills about 6:30 pm. Those stopping for dinner, return about 8:30 pm. The one-way distance is about 125 miles. Based on the length of the drive, a per-person monetary contribution for gas would be appreciated: $18 to be given to driver at beginning of drive. Parking fee at Pantoll to be split. Detailed driving directions will be handed out to all drivers.
